STAR Voting for Eugene, OR turned in 10,406 signatures to qualify for the May 2020 ballot. Despite turning in almost 30% over the required number, the verification process determined that the petition came down to a determination on 23 signers who were subjectively rejected on the basis of their signatures alone. The petition was deemed "void."
The campaign then turned in 25 notarized affidavits to the Mayor verifying that these people did sign. In light of this, Eugene City Council has agreed to call a work session to consider referring STAR to the November ballot. The work session has been rescheduled and delayed repeatedly, but the final vote will take place July 13th at noon.
Concurrently, the campaign went through the "signers report" with a fine toothed comb, and documented over 30 signers who were rejected in error for a variety of reasons. The campaign has filed a legal appeal calling for this evidence to be considered. The court date has also been delayed due to Covid-19 and is scheduled for December 2020.
STAR Voting for Lane County, OR has been gathering signatures since July 31st, 2019 and has until summer of 2021 to qualify for the ballot. The campaign is close to our signature goal, though canvassing has been officially suspended for now due to concerns around Covid-19.
